Job Title: Surveillance and Outbreak Response Laboratory Coordinator

Key functions:
•Strengthening and maintaining the laboratory surveillance system in coordination with epidemiological surveillance Division of the MOH
•Coordinating the development of guidelines and standard operating procedures for disease outbreak investigations and surveillance
•Establishing a mechanism to ensure that laboratories at various levels are prepared for outbreak investigations
•In liaison with the sample referral system coordinator, strengthen the sample referral system for epidemic investigations
•Participating in the development of training materials and capacity building activities
•Developing strategic, business and operational plans and budgets for surveillance and outbreak investigations
•Preparing periodic performance reports for submission to the relevant authorities
•Monitoring and evaluate activities for laboratory surveillance and outbreak investigation
Qualifications:
•Must possess a Bachelors degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or advance Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology from Recognized University
•Must possess a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology or Microbiology, parasitological, Virology or Public Health from recognized University
•Must have at least nine years of relevant working experience five of which should have been at a national reference or research laboratory
Competencies:
•Demonstrated ability in Good Laboratory Practices
•Demonstrated leadership, communication, writing and interpersonal skills
•Ability to coach and mentor staff
•Good analytical and quantitative skills
•Demonstrated knowledge of strategic planning and understanding of the strategic direction of MoH and of PEPFAR programmes
