Job Title: Labour Officer / Industrial Relations Officer (1)

Duty Station:  Kampala

Salary scale:            M6

Role:    To implement Labour Relation policies of unionized staff in the University in line with Labor Laws.

 Required Qualification:
Either
  • A Masters’ degree in Human Resource Management or Organizational Psychology or MBA (Human Resource option).
Or
  • Masters degree with a postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource management from a recognized Institution/University.
  • An Honors Bachelors degree in Human Resource management or Business Studies or Industrial Psychology or Arts/Social Sciences or Education or its equivalent from recognized institution/university

Key Result Areas:

  • Develop and implement a mechanism for conflict resolution in line with Human Resources polices and labour laws.
  • Review and implement Human Resources policies in line with the Labour Laws.
  • Develop, review, recommend and implement policies on sexual harassment in line with Human Resources policies.
  • Develop, review and recommend a policy on sports/recreation for staff in line with Human Resources policies.
  • Implement, monitor and update staff leave schedules in line with Human Resources policy.
  • Handle staff grievances in line with set standards and guidelines
  • Liaise with the UniversityHospital in handling Workman’s Compensation.

Essential skills/Competences
  • Must be computer literate
  • Good interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Proven Counseling Skills
  • Working Knowledge of Labour Laws

Experience.
  • Not less than 3- years of HRM work experience in a large complex and reputable organization handling labour matters.

Desirable qualities/Added advantage
  • Familiarity with the Employment Act (2006) of Uganda
  • Knowledge of the Universities and other Tertiary Institutions Act
  • Knowledge of other Labour Laws
Age Limit:       Below 50 years

Tenure of Appointment:         Permanent Terms of Service
