Job Title: Laboratory Technician

Main Purpose
  • To carry out basic laboratory tests for diagnosis of diseases

Qualifications
  • Must have a National Diploma in medical laboratory techniques or its equivalent from a recognized university/institution
  • Must be registered with the Allied Health Professionals Council
  • Good communication and Interpersonal skills

Key Outputs
  • Accountability for financial and other resources produced
  • Laboratory test results and treatment harmonized
  • Laboratory investigations done and results interpreted
  • Advising clinical staff on proper collection, handling and transportation of specimen given

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Managing and accounting for financial and other resources
  • Liaising with Ward management in the preparation of patients for laboratory test
  • Participating in proper collection, handling and transportation of specimens to the laboratory
  • Carrying out Laboratory analysis, interpreting  results and submitting reports to clinicians
  • Ensuring safety measures against hazards
  • Participating in quality assurance for laboratories
  • Participating in research activities
  • Adhering to professional code of conduct and ethics
  • Requisitioning for equipment and other supplies

How to Apply:
Applications should be submitted in triplicate on Public Service Form No. 3 (Revised
2008) to the Secretary of the respective District Service Commission ( applies to applicants to District Hospitals) and Applicants to Regional Referral Hospitals should deliver their applications  to the Secretary, Health Service Commission, Workers’ House, 3rd Floor (Northern Wing), Plot No. 1, Pilkington Road, Kampala.  Or through P.O.Box 7452Kampala

The application forms are obtainable from the District Service Commission or Public Service commission website.

Applications should bear the title and number of the post applied for, name of the District, Authority or Municipality where the job is tenable. Please include telephone contacts on the application.

Applicants should attach to each of the three application forms or hand written application letters three (3) sets of certified photocopies of their academic certificates, testimonials, professional registration certificates, valid practicing licenses and three (3)  of their recent passport-size photographs. For promotional posts, copies of letter(s) of appointment, confirmation and promotion if any, should also be attached.

Applicants who will not hear from the respective Service Commissions on completion of the selection exercise should consider themselves unsuccessful. The lists of successful candidates will be displayed on the Notice Boards of the respective Service Commissions.
