Job Title: Teacher Trainer and Library Workshop Manager

Employer: AfricaDevelopment Corps

Duty Station:  Kampala

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Book management (i.e. cataloguing books, creating a circulation system, and designing and completing circulation forms to be used by monitoring and evaluation officers to assess the success of the program.)
  • Book care (i.e. how to store the books to prevent damage.)
  • Reviving literacy (i.e. spark a reading revolution and create a learning and reading culture within a given community, give support and advocate to influential community stake holders in order to leverage community support for the program.)
  • Library establishment (i.e. finding sources of revenue for the creation of new libraries such as local communities, corporations, or international donors.)
  • Assist in the Design of the Workshop booklet to be disseminated and discussed during workshops
  • Establish and maintain a good working relationship with District Education Offices throughout Uganda. Use this network to contact various beneficiary schools and organize workshops
  • Maintain constant field presence throughout the implementation of the Program.
  • Assist monitoring and evaluation officer’s in their reports. This includes field visits, collecting completed circulation forms, and organizing interviews and meetings through established networks you will have built up in the capacity of Teacher Trainer and Library Workshop Manager.
  • Perform any other relevant job tasks

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicant should possess a University Degree in Education, MA degree strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of five years’ teaching experience in Ugandan primary schools.
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to talk confidently and clearly to large workshops.
  • The applicant must demonstrate that they have experience and knowledge of working with communities to bring about positive change in the education related sphere.
  • The candidate will have genuine enthusiasm for teaching and a strong desire to improve the education of children in Uganda.
  • As part of this role, much time will be spent in rural areas living in basic conditions. Candidate must be able to maintain enthusiasm and desire to keep on educating to a high standard, even under difficult circumstances.
  • Previous experience working for an NGO is an added advantage, as in experience and knowledge of monitoring and evaluation processes and techniques.
  • Previous experience in teacher training/lecturing would be preferred
