Job Description:
Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Trade Industry and Cooperatives mandated to coordinate the elaboration of standards and quality of products and services so as to facilitate fair trade, promote local industries and protect consumers. UNBS is currently looking for a suitable and qualified Ugandan to fill the position of Manager, Standards Development.
Job Requirements:
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The main purpose of the job is to design, develop and maintain procedures for the development of national standards to ensure adherence to good standardization practices
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate shall be required to perform the following duties:
Develop procedures for the development of national standards in accordance with the WTO code of practice for standards development
Participate in the development of standards harmonization programmes under the East African Community in accordance with the EACSQMT Act and other regional blocks to which Uganda belongs
Monitor, guide and support technical Committees in the development and harmonization of standards
Coordinate the promotion of the use of Standards by Stakeholders
Coordinate editing, publishing and notification of standards in accordance with, the UNBS Act and other trade agreements
Coordinate the presentation of standards for approval to the National Standards Committee.
Monitor coordination of regional and international standardization activities
Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual work plans and budgets for the development of national standards in accordance UNBS strategic plan
Perform any other relevant duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Deputy Executive Director- Technical Operations.
QUALIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a Masters Degree in either Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Food science, Food Technology, Engineering or any other science related qualification from a recognized University/Institution
Possession of Honours degree in either Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Food science, Food Technology, Engineering or any other science related qualification from a recognized University/Institution
Must be computer literate with skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the Internet applications.
Working experience of ten (10) years, five (5) years of which are at a senior Officer level in a reputable organization
Experience in Standards, Quality Assurance, Metrology and Laboratory Testing areas and Quality Management Systems will be an added advantage
KEY COMPETENCIES
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
High integrity, innovative, creative and self-driven.
Age: Between 35 and 55 years.
