Our advisory services in agriculture, renewable energy and water, sanitation & hygiene are in line with Ugandan development policies and are tailored for specific organisations and districts. The dairy & livestock advisor will contribute to increased production, food security, income, employment and improved livelihood for households active in dairy and livestock and small & medium enterprises.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Delivery of advisory services to different actors in the value chain: producer group and service provider strengthening, market intelligence, financial brokering, evidence-based advocacy that promotes an enabling legal and policy environment.
2. Programme management: provide direction to dairy & livestock projects, lead and coach teams of SNV advisors and local capacity builders, financial management and reporting to donors.
3. Business development: design competitive project proposals and develop new partnerships. Develop an innovative livestock programme for Karamoja.
4. Knowledge development: steer learning from dairy and livestock practice, publish
best practices and contribute to a wider knowledge agenda at national and international
level.
5. External representation: represent SNV in meetings with government, public and private investors and other (inter)national development
partners.
Requirements
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
The candidate should hold a Master’s degree in Livestock or agribusiness studies.
Ten years of relevant working experience in livestock / dairy value chain development of which 5 years at senior level and at least 2 years in pastoralists’ environments such as Karamoja.
Proven experience with programme design, proposal writing, international donor and private
investor relationship management
Demonstrated experience with project planning, monitoring, evaluation, reporting and financial management.
Proven experience in advisory services including capacity building, empowerment, facilitation of multi-stakeholder processes, organisational learning, and change processes.
Proven experience in knowledge development and evidence based advocacy
Experience in inclusive business, climate-smart agriculture, youth entrepreneurship, gender mainstreaming and governance is an added advantage.
A self-motivated achiever with excellent leadership, teamwork, coaching, communication, networking and organisational skills.
Proficient in MS word & excel at advanced level.
