Job Title: Deputy Team Leader- Digital Access to Finance
Location:Africa - Uganda
Location Details:
Department:Financial Services
Division:Economic Growth
DAI is an employee-owned global development company. For 40 years, we have worked on the frontlines of international development, tackling fundamental social and economic development problems caused by inefficient markets, ineffective governments, and instability. Currently, DAI is delivering results that matter in some 60 countries. Our integrated development solutions turn ideas into impact by bringing together fresh combinations of expertise and innovation across multiple disciplines—crisis mitigation and stability operations, democratic governance and public sector management, agriculture and agribusiness, private sector development and financial services, economics and trade, HIV/AIDS and disease control, water and natural resources management, and energy and climate change. Our clients include international development agencies, international lending institutions, private corporations and philanthropies, and national governments.
Description
Objective of the programme:
DAI is preparing for an anticipated programme that will contribute towards sustainable improvements in the livelihoods of the rural poor through increased digital financial inclusion. Digital financial inclusion encompasses all forms of electronic payments, but given the landscape in Uganda, the focus is particularly on using mobile phones as a mechanism for financial transactions and services. Working with public and private stakeholders including BoU, MoF, local telecoms, banks, and MFIs, the programme will coordinate, concentrate, and amplify the efforts of organizations working in financial inclusion in Uganda.
The program will facilitate improvements in the digital financial service ecosystem; supporting the development of payments platforms and services that will lead to a wider range of financial services and delivery mechanisms benefitting poor households and micro, small and medium enterprises in Uganda.
Duties and Responsibilities
We are seeking a knowledgeable technical expert with experience in digital financial inclusion to:
Identify opportunities for investments and improvements to catalyse digital access to finance products and services (i.e. product development, implementation strategy, policy expertise);
Provide a nuanced understanding of Ugandan and regional digital payment ecosystem, including existing challenges and opportunities; and
Build off of and contribute to regional expertise in digital financial access by identifying and coordinating local and regional technical assistance.
Requirements:
At least 5 years of experience working in access to finance, at least three of which focus on digital access to finance or product development;
Extensive experience working in Uganda or the region;
Experience working on donor funded programmes;
Significant networking and relationship management skills; and
Familiarity with key approaches to monitoring and evaluating digital access to finance; and
Fluency in English.
Length of the project: 2.5 – 3 years
Anticipated Project Start date: Third/Fourth Quarter 2013
Office location: Kampala, Uganda
How to apply: Please submit a cover letter and CV to dai.johannesburg@dai.com
