Job Summary: The Mechanical Superintendent will manage the daily coordination and execution of the mechanical, Garage and Building maintenance activities in the most reliable and cost effective manner possible.  This will be accomplished through the use of planning and scheduling practices while taking into consideration the production requirements of the plant.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Initiates job execution by advising appropriate foremen of tasks, which require technical specifications, limitations, methods or procedures to be defined prior to being done.
Works closely with Quarrying, Production, Logistics, Optimisation and Electrical to specify weekly downtime requirements and define interaction required between the different operation groups.  Moreover, daily communication with the Production Coordinator for the day-to-day requirements is expected.
Execution of mechanical works as identified in CMMS, ADAP, daily incident reports, daily urgent inspection tasks, reported safety observations mechanical hazards Planned activities and  shutdown tasks.
Allocation of duties to technicians, fitters, welders and greasers in order of priorities with strong consideration of the allocated budget and production targets.
Responsible for preparing and controlling the section budget.
Ensure historical work order documentation is done in such a manner that it can be used for analysis which may include, but is not limited to activities such as follow-up, upgrade requirements, troubleshooting and budget preparation.  Both historical and machinery parts information is kept updated in MAXIMO as deemed necessary.
Initiates and authorizes routine contract work and is responsible for ensuring administrative functions for appropriate cost control are in place, such as providing the scope of work to the vendor and approving purchase order requisitions and maintaining a cost control spread sheet for budget control purposes.
Contributes to monitoring and maintaining the Preventive Maintenance Schedule by ensuring the even distribution of preventive maintenance throughout the year and updating Preventive Maintenance check lists as deemed necessary by equipment upgrades and modifications. The incumbent ensures the updating of equipment parts catalogue.
Maintains the mechanical, Building and garage backlog ensuring work orders are up to date and kept live as required providing information as to the status and scheduling requirements of the same.
Participates fully in the formulation of Major operations.
Ensure motivation of staff members through proper delegation, participation, recognition, and follow up on suggestions and ideas
Establish the sections daily/weekly work schedule based on information drawn from the following sources – daily incident reports, scheduled CMMS, inspection based, predictive based work order, ADAP reports and Plant improvement plans.
The job holder will be responsible for screening, prioritizing and approving work orders from these sources based on criticality to the operation as well as manpower and downtime availability while always taking into consideration the effect on equipment reliability and the plant’s production requirements.
Adverse working conditions of dusty, excessive heat, confined space and high noise level conditions.
The Mechanical superintendent will be charged with the completion all maintenance work in a safe, efficient and timely manner and in compliance with environmental requirements
The Mechanical Superintendent is part of the Managers On-Call Program

Requirements
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
A Bachelor of Science Degree or Higher National Diploma in mechanical engineering or Electrical Engineering.
Five (5) or more years experience in heavy machinery, preferably cement industry.
Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System (MAXIMO), work order tracking system, spare parts catalogue, requisitioning and inventory systems as well as compatibility with other software packages such as Microsoft Project
Knowledgeable of the plant process and production requirements
Knowledge of safety rules and regulations and the Code of Business Conduct
In-depth knowledge of mechanical equipment.
Good knowledge of the process systems and control equipment.
Strong technical knowledge on Industrial mechanical equipment system installation.
Strong Technical knowledge of control equipments with ability to, diagnose and analyse reports.  
Computer literacy
Technical knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance.
